Back Care 1 hour
Back-care workshops are run by chartered physiotherapists. The workshop, which runs for 30 / 60 minutes, explains the basic anatomy of the back, explores the incidence of back pain in the UK, and explains the general causes of back-pain, whether that be a specific strain or injury, or more postural, to do with poor workplace seating, incorrect lifting, age or simple inactivity. It deals with what you should do if you experience back pain, and what is going on in the back when pain is experienced. Inactivity is the main cause of back pain, and the final section explains what people can do themselves, to reduce the risk of suffering from back pain, as well as suggesting some simple exercises that individuals can incorporate into their daily lives.
Alexander Technique (practical) 1 hour
Many of us experience aches and pains as a result of everyday activities we do. Occasionally we are even forced to stop doing something we enjoy because of the strain involved. Often the reasons for this lie not in the activity itself but in the way we carry the activity out.
The Alexander Technique is a means of developing poise and freedom of movement through an increased awareness of the ways in which we use and misuse our bodies in everyday activities. The technique can help with conditions such as back pain, neck and shoulder tension, breathing disorders and general fatigue and can contribute to a greater sense of well-being and enjoyment of life. The workshop explains the theory behind the technique and introduces some practical exercises, which can be incorporated into everyday work practices.
Pilates (practical) 1 hour
Pilates shares similar goals to Yoga, with the emphasis on stretching as well as strengthening
muscles. However the Pilates system works the body as a whole, co-ordinating the upper and lower musculature with the body’s centre. Pilates dramatically improves strength, flexibility, posture and coordination.
Yoga (practical) 1 hour
Yoga is a system of physical, mental and spiritual development, which can be practised by anyone irrespective of age or sex. The effects of Yoga are both curative and preventative and will be reflected not only in the body but also the mind and the spirit. This workshop introduces simple stretches, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation techniques.
Tai Chi (practical) 1 hour
Tai Chi is a Martial Art, which can be practised for combat or as a sport but is more commonly
practised for health. Often referred to as “the thinking man’s Martial Art”, it is a solo exercise practised in a series of slow and gracefully linked moves called a ‘form’. In a Tai Chi class a relaxed atmosphere is cultivated out of movements, which have an undeniable calmness about them.
Meditation (practical) 1 hour
Many UK businesses now run corporate Meditation programmes in the knowledge that regular practice “cuts down time off work through stress-related illness and generates positive interpersonal relationships and work efficiency”. Meditation is a very simple technique practised for 15-20 minutes a day, and has a wide-ranging series of health benefits.
The session will introduce different meditation techniques and explain the long-term benefits of regular practice, as well as answering questions about the origins of Meditation.
Pressure Management/Life Coaching 1 hour 30 minutes
Using meditation and creative visualisation techniques you can train your body to de-stress in an instant. A face paced lifestyle is now common place but without adapting to this stress can lead to distressing, disabling symptoms such as anxiety attacks, dizziness, shortness of breath, phobias and a multitude of mental/emotional problems which, if not dealt with, can degenerate into physical disabilities. Through our seminar learn tips and techniques on how to deal with the pressures of life both at work and at home.
